Who I am
I am Ryan Phillips, a freelance web consultant operating as a sole trader in the United Kingdom. My contact email is ryanphillipsweb@gmail.com.
This policy explains what personal data I collect, why I collect it, how I use it, and what your rights are under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What data I collect
Contact form. When you submit the contact form on this site, I collect your name, email address, company name (optional), and the message you send. This data is processed by Netlify Forms and delivered to my email inbox.
Analytics. This site may use privacy-friendly analytics (such as Plausible Analytics) which collects aggregate, anonymised data about page visits — no cookies, no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking.
Cookies. This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies. See the Cookie Policy for details.
Why I collect it and the legal basis
I collect contact form data to respond to enquiries about my services. The legal basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — specifically, the legitimate interest of responding to business enquiries you have initiated.
If we enter into a contract, I will retain relevant correspondence for the duration of the engagement and for six years thereafter, in line with standard UK business record-keeping requirements.
Who I share it with
I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Your data may pass through the following third-party processors:
- Netlify — hosts this website and processes contact form submissions. Data is stored in the US under Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Google Workspace — my email provider, where contact form submissions are delivered.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to work are deleted within 12 months. Correspondence relating to completed engagements is retained for six years from the end of the engagement, as required for tax and legal purposes. You can request earlier deletion — see your rights below.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data I hold about you.
- Rectification — ask me to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure — ask me to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Restriction — ask me to limit how I use your data.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email me at ryanphillipsweb@gmail.com. I will respond within one calendar month. If you are not satisfied with my response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be flagged clearly.
